Sewing Corner

I don't generally do a whole lot of sewing. I am much more of a knitter and crocheter. I realized the reason I seem to gravitate to these hobbies is because I can do them on the couch with my family around in the evening. If I sew I have to do it by myself upstairs which is no fun. I kind of like this family of mine! We took down the Christmas tree and John and I decided to turn that corner into the sewing corner.

 

This being an old house (and supposedly a duplex at one time which would be impressive for a 1200 sq. ft. house) there are some extra doors in rooms that don't really get used. We never use this entrance to the stairs so we usually put something in front of it.

 

I made this wreath (horrible picture) from our natural Christmas tree decorations. You can't see it well but it has broom corn, sugar gum balls, and Osage oranges on it.

 

 

Here it is complete with my shabby little porcelain top table I thrifted for $15. I wanted to keep it simple and clean (at first anyways).

 

 

 

I just put out a few of the essentials. Didn't want to overcrowd it. I sat down to sew to see if I liked it and it was like sewing on a trampoline. The stuff pictured above went flying all over the place. Apparently the top of the table isn't too sturdy and bounced up and down. I'm kind of bummed because I really liked how it was looking so far!

 

 

I stubbornly put the top of this quilt for my daughter together...very slowly. I really want this table to work out but I'm not sure if it can be fixed. I might have to go antiquing for a new one (oh the pain).

 

John decided to do a little project of his own...something we have wanted to do for awhile.

 

I mean with all this snow we are getting it will be good to have an extra heating source, right? Some of it peeled off because of it's past rental status and shabby repairs that were made here and there. I'm not an expert on the stuff but if I were to wall up a fireplace I wouldn't use 100% joint compound. Oh well, it works for now and we can always touch it up a bit.
